LifeSpan Services: PRe-Retirement Resources
Each year the Office of Work, Life and Engagement and the JHU Benefits Office sponsor Pre-Retirement Planning Programs for Faculty & Senior Staff and for Support Staff at JHU. Employees 55 and over are invited to a day-long seminar that covers a wide range of topics from financial decision-making to navigating the Social Security process. Navigating the Retirement Transition
The Office of Work, Life and Engagement offers a holistic pre-retirement planning program open to Johns Hopkins employees—JH Retire Right. This program is designed for employees who have only a vague notion of activities they would like to engage in during retirement as well as those who have a well-defined vision for their retirement years.
JH Retire Right helps employees contemplating retirement by raising their awareness of issues that impact retirement satisfaction, assisting employees as they articulate a vision for their retirement, and providing tools to help employees design a strategy for a successful retirement.
Employees can take part in a two-part program:
- A one-hour seminar that introduces employees to the many issues involved in planning for retirement. Participants will leave this seminar with ‘assignments’ such as talking with recent retirees and meeting with a financial planner to begin the process of developing their retirement vision.
- Individualized counseling from a licensed mental health professional to help the employee continue to develop a plan for retirement and work to eliminate barriers to achieving retirement goals.
