Leave of Absence

As you approach the arrival date of your new family member, you will consider how much paid and unpaid leave you would like to take. Family and Medical Leave (FML) entitles eligible employees to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons with continuation of group health insurance coverage under the same terms and conditions as if the employee had not taken leave.

In addition to FML, university faculty, staff or bargaining unit members who have been continuously employed in a full-time or part-time position for at least one year, are eligible for Birth Recovery and Parental Leave (new policy as of July 1, 2017).

More Information

For information on how FML, Birth Recovery Leave, Parental Leave, and Short-Term Disability work together, please visit the university's Benefits website. You will find information about the necessary steps you should take before, during, and at the end of leave.
