Financial Assistance Program (FAP)

When financial troubles mount, it can be difficult to focus on work or the needs of your family. The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FASAP) collaborates with local partners to provide financial guidance, education, and resources. The Johns Hopkins Federal Credit Union (JHFCU) and the Financial Stability Pathway Project through the Baltimore Cash Campaign provide financial assistance in times of need.

Emergency Loans for University Employees

The Financial Assistance Program (FAP) was developed to meet the specific emergency financial needs of JHU employees. Short-term assistance ranging from $300 - $750 can be loaned to employees who have the inability to meet a financial obligation. Applicants must meet certain criteria in order to be eligible.

The loans are subject to the approval of FASAP and Johns Hopkins Federal Credit Union (JHFCU). Applicants must meet with a FASAP clinician to demonstrate how the need arose and how non-payment will affect their well-being. Additionally, applicants must provide a valid bill to be paid by the loan. Applicants may be required to follow up with financial counseling and/or any other recommended interventions. Financial assistance is underwritten through an agreement between JHU Human Resources and JHFCU.

To be eligible,  you must be a full-time, fully-benefited university employee and not have filed for bankruptcy in the last 12 months. Other eligibility criteria include that you must have completed your probationary period and not had a disciplinary action in the last six months. Please call 443-997-7000 for a complete list of eligibility criteria, to make an appointment, and obtain the necessary paperwork.

Emergency Loans for Hospital and Health System Employees

The Emergency Loan Program provides short-term loans from $300 to $750 to meet the specific emergency needs of eligible employees. The loans are underwritten through an agreement between the Department of Human Resources and the Johns Hopkins Federal Credit Union (JHFCU). Emergency Loan application packages are available at the HR Service Center.

If you received an emergency loan in the past, you may be required to meet with FASAP in order to obtain an additional loan.
