BRIAN BOYLE, JHU graduate student, has a very personal connection to blood donations. “Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. On July 6, 2004, I was one of these people. The foundation of my recovery was the result of 36 blood donors who I never met, nor will I ever have a chance to know. What I do know is that the short amount of time they spent to donate blood gave me a lifetime. For the nearly 5 million people who receive blood transfusions every year, donations can make the difference between life and death. I am living proof. Every day since I left the hospital, I have focused on showing my gratitude for the life I have been given and the people who have helped me throughout my journey.”
