johns hopkins adopt-a-student uniform drive
We wish to thank all the members of the Hopkins community who participated in the inaugural 'Adopt-a-Student' Uniform Drive. Thanks to your generosity we far exceeded our goal to provide uniforms to 30 students in need. More than 100 students have been sponsored. Thank you for helping students return to school prepared, confident and ready to learn for the 2011 -12 school year.
Program Description
In partnership with Baltimore City Public Schools (City Schools), this program is organized by the Office of Work, Life and Engagement, in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins University Black Faculty and Staff Association, and is a charitable activity for all Hopkins affliates.
More than 83,000 students are enrolled in City Schools and nearly 84 percent are considered low-income, based on Free or Reduced Meal eligibility. Many items are needed to prepare students for the upcoming school year. In addition to requests for backpacks and other school supplies, many schools also require uniforms. Unfortunately, several families are unable to afford them. The 'Adopt-a-Student' Uniform Drive was established in 2011 to assist these families in purchasing the required uniforms.
Information about the 2012 'Adopt-a-Student' Uniform Drive will be available in July 2012.
